Polar Coordinate Plane...?
« on: April 27, 2010, 05:01:01 PM »
Is there a way / might there in the future be a way to plot Polar functions on a Polar Coordinate plane instead of the cartesian plane?  My polar graphs don't look right...

Hello,

Could you explain what you mean with the polar coordinate plane? If you enter a function in theta (e.g. the angle), it will be taken as the length of the vector.

Cheers

Like instead of the plane where the x axis and the y axis intersect, the plane with the pole at the center, and the two components of any point are the angle (starts at the polar axis (x) and goes counter clockwise), then 'r' is the distance from center (polar axis)... such that r=a describes a circle of radius 'a', and x = r *cos  and y = r*sin... I hope thats clear...

the latter (y=rcos and x=rsin) are just for conversion purposes, the two points for Polar coordinates always being radius and angle...

Hi,

I think I now know what you mean. There would be circles from the origin, plus some "rays" from the origin to denote different angles? I added it to the feature list, but I don't think this will be added anytime soon. It's a nice idea though.

Cheers

Yup, thats the one.   Not high on my wish list either but would be cool to see someday...
